1542.10 Parent & Family Programs and the Panther Family Association

In order to provide families of Georgia State University students with an opportunity to remain actively involved with their student through the college experience, Parent & Family Programs provides programs and services such as Family Weekend. All family members and supporters of our students are automatically members of the Panther Family Association and have access to the Panther Family Portal. The Panther Family Portal (pantherfamily.gsu.edu) gives you access to newsletters, programming opportunities and critical information to support your student including requesting a connection to your student to approve FERPA access.

For more information, call 404-413-1580 or visit the Panther Family Portal at pantherfamily.gsu.edu.

1542.20 New Student Orientation

New Student Orientation is responsible for welcoming students to the Panther Family. Your student type will determine what your requirements for Orientation. All new students to the University are required to complete Start @ State as part of their onboarding. For all first time first-year students at the Atlanta & Perimeter College Campuses, New Student Orientation is the official Georgia State University welcome and is required for new freshman, which you will register for after completing Start @ State. Transfer, transition, transient, post-bac, and Dual Enrollment students are only required to complete Start @ State. Transfer & Transition students have an additional orientation available for them to attend if they choose.

Freshman will receive a tour of Georgia State’s campuses, learn about important campus resources such as campus safety, financial aid and more. Additional benefits of attending New Student Orientation are the connections made with fellow classmates as well as seasoned student leaders who will be assisting students throughout the orientation experience. At the end of the orientation day, students will receive academic advisement and register for classes.

New Student Orientation has multiple dates available in order to meet students’ needs and schedules. One-day orientation programs are offered for new freshman students at Atlanta, half-day programs at Perimeter College, and half-day orientation programs for new transfer students. There is also a family and guest orientation program which runs concurrently with all student programs.

For additional information, visit New Student Orientation online at orientation.gsu.edu or in person, Student Center East, Suite 304.

1542.30 Off-Campus Housing

Off-Campus Housing serves to support students in navigating the off-campus Panther experience.

One service to be aware of is georgiastateoffcampus.com, where we have partnered with Apartments.com to provide students with a tool to find a place to live off campus and search for a roommate. Because the New Student Orientation office does not approve, inspect or assume responsibility for those facilities listed on the off campus housing website, it is strongly recommended that a visit be made to the apartment or home prior to making lease or rental arrangements. If possible, schedule more than one interview with a prospective house share or roommate and always request references. In addition to these resources, we also coordinate off-campus housing fairs each semester.

For more information, visit the New Student Orientation office located in Student Center East, Suite 304, call 404-413-1591 or visit gsu.edu/offcampus.
