EDCI 3220 - Understanding and Supporting Middle School Learners

Description
The focus of this course is on middle school learners and on the diversity among them (e.g., development, culture, ethnicity, language, gender, religion, SES, ability/disability). The course will also focus on the instructional, curricular, and organizational issues related to the development of each child. Major emphases include an understanding of the ways in which the teacher’s expectations, knowledge, and pedagogy influence students’ learning and efficacy. Middle school philosophy, the role of parents, and the role of community members are also addressed. School and community observations and participation are included.
