EXC 7420 - Assessment and Structured Literacy Instruction in Reading Fluency, Vocabulary, and Comprehension for Students with Dyslexia and Other Reading Disabilities

3 Credit Hours
Requirements: A minimum grade of “B” is required for this course.

Description
This course prepares educators to improve the reading achievement of students with or at-risk for word-level reading difficulties (WLRD), including dyslexia, in the areas of reading fluency, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and written expression. Students learn the essential principles and evidence-based practices of structured literacy instruction in these areas (i.e., fluent reading of connected text, explicit vocabulary instruction, reading comprehension strategy instruction, and written composition). Students will learn how to assess these areas of reading, interpret assessment results, communicate findings, and use results to plan for instruction.
