MATH 4761 - Mathematical Introduction to Machine Learning


3 Credit Hours
Pre/Corequisites: MATH 2641 and MATH 4751/6751 with grades of C or higher. The ability to program in a high-level language is helpful but not required.
Description
A mathematically rigorous introduction to Machine Learning (ML) from the point of view of modeling and prediction.  Students will explore the connections between the theory and practice of various ML concepts, algorithms, and models.  Topics will include: formulation of learning problems; generalized linear models; overfitting and generalization; clustering; classification; probabilistic modeling; tree-based methods; optimization techniques; and neural networks.
