CHEM 1211 - Principles of Chemistry I 3 Credit Hours Prerequisites: MATH1111 or higher with a C or better.
Alternatively, students may take MATH1111 concurrently if they have met one of the following pre-conditions: 1) Score of 1 or higher on either the Chemistry, Calculus, or Physics AP exam; 2) complete CHEM1050 or CHEM1151K (or CHEM1151/CHEM1151L) or equivalent with a C or higher; 3) placement into MATH1111 or higher based on math placement test; or 4) IB Chemistry with department approval. Corequisites: CHEM1211L Description This is the first course in a two-semester sequence covering the fundamental principles and applications of chemistry for science majors. Topics include composition of matter, chemical reactions, stoichiometry, periodic relations, nomenclature, thermochemistry, electronic structure, chemical bonding, molecular geometry, and properties of gases. Three lecture hours a week.
