GEOG 4460 - Water, Food, and Waste Systems

3 Credit Hours
Description
Food and water are essential to sustaining human life, but the way in which we currently obtain and use these resources is unsustainable. The ways in which we generate and dispose of waste products continues to accelerate despite the attendant pollution and destruction of the natural environment. In this class, we will explore these hard truths on local, national, and global levels with a scientific lens. Our global population needs sustainable and equitable systems of food, water, and waste. This course will cover an array of topics in the intersecting realms of today’s water, food, and waste systems, with an emphasis on the underlying science, the cultural and historical context of these systems, and promising solutions for a more sustainable future.
