BMSC 4010 - Host-Microbial Interactions

4 Credit Hours
Prerequisites: BMSC 2100  with a grade of C or higher.
Description
Discussion of the complex microbial communities that inhabit our interfaces with the outside world. Discussion of the microbiome in terms of “who’s there?”, “what is it doing?”, “how is it controlled?”, and “how does it benefit and/or harm the host, especially in terms of chronic inflammatory diseases?”. Emphasis will be placed on critical review of literature that purports to increase understanding of these questions.
