AL 4090 - Language and Computers


3 Credit Hours
Prerequisites: AL 3021  or FORL 3021 with C or higher.
Description
The class will focus on how computers understand language and also examine the social and ethical considerations of language technologies. Topics covered will include speech recognition, spelling correction, search engines, dialog tasks, computer assisted language learning, machine translation, spelling and grammar correction, forensic linguistics, and e-mail filtering. The course will focus specifically on natural language processing (NLP) and its applications.
