Same as HIST 4540. The history of the early modern British Isles and their interaction with the wider world. Special attention to the Reformation; changes in governance; civil war; society, gender, and the preindustrial economy. Also includes emphasis on interactions between the different countries of the British Isles, and to contact between Britain and the wider world through imperialism, trade, and travel.
