HIST 3715 - Modern Japan

Description
This course explores the history of Japan during the modern period, from late 1500s through the present. Special attention will be paid to the development of Japanese national identity in local, regional and global contexts. Primary and secondary sources, including writing and other media, will allow students to understand and appreciate Japan’s transformation from relative isolation to a major regional and global power in the twentieth century.
