SPAN 4462 - Spanish in the United States

Prerequisites: SPAN 3303 with a C or higher, or equivalent, or permission of the professor.

Description
This course studies the history, development, and current status of Spanish in the United States. Given the repercussions of languages in contact, we will examine diglossia, bilingualism, linguistic identity, language planning & policy, standardization, and the linguistic implications of the presence Spanish as a heritage language in the United States.
