10300 School of Film, Media & Theatre

10th Floor, 25 Park Place

Ethan Tussey, Ph.D, Interim Director
Mary Emily Deal, Associate Director

The School of Film, Media & Theatre is dedicated to educating the next generation of critically aware media makers, scholars, theatre practitioners and citizens. The school is the largest film and media program in Atlanta, the third largest media capital in America. It is also in the heart of a booming film and television industry, giving students access and experience to navigate the demands of a fast-changing and competitive film, media and theatre world.

Many Film and Media students are looking to enter the rapidly growing film, television, and new media industries in Georgia and around the world, and our curriculum is designed to offer opportunities in hands-on mediamaking instruction while also grounding students in a solid understanding of media history, industry, technology, culture, theory, and criticism.

Like Film and Media majors, Theatre students are following their passion, which is something that all professional employers desire. The School is committed to live performance as a centerpiece of our culture, and we recognize that most media begin with capturing performance.

Major Eligibility Requirements

To be a Film & Media Major and/or to take upper-level (3000-4999) FLME courses. Students must complete the Major Eligibility Requirement. More information can be found in the Film and Media, B.A.  section of the catalog.

College and University Degree Requirements

In addition to the Major Eligibility Requirements for Film and Media, students must fulfill the College of the Arts Degree Requirements (see College Degree Requirements ) and the University Degree Requirements (see 1400 University Degree Requirements and Graduation ).

Critical Thinking Through Writing Requirement

All students are required to complete one Critical Thinking Through Writing (CTW) course as part of the major. The university formerly required two CTW courses. Students following previous catalog requirements who have passed one CTW course in the major should consult with their faculty advisor to determine which course may be used as a substitution for the other formerly required CTW course.

Graduation with Distinction in the Major

This school offers undergraduate students the opportunity to earn the designation of graduation with distinction in the major. Please contact the School of Film, Media & Theatre for the specific criteria for this honor.
