We are a leading urban sociology department and a center of excellence for scholarly research, undergraduate education, graduate training, and community engagement.

Through innovative scholarship, teaching and community service, we craft, translate, and disseminate sociological knowledge to foster social justice, equality, and policy transformation. We specialize in promoting deeper public understanding of global, urban, and community inequalities related to social class, race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, aging, education, and health and illness.
