Kinesiology is the study of movement. With a belief that physical activity is vital for all people, the Department of Kinesiology and Health seeks to increase and advance understanding of the role physical activity plays in attaining optimal health and well-being and prepare future professionals to promote healthy lifestyles for themselves and others. The department conducts cutting-edge research on topics such as improving teacher wellness, increasing quality of life for individuals with decreased mobility, promoting positive behavior change regarding activity, and the impact of urban stadiums on surrounding communities. The department includes three programs of study: Health and physical education, exercise science and sport administration. The health and physical education program prepares graduates qualified to teach health and physical education in public schools. Exercise science program graduates are qualified and trained as health fitness specialists or clinical exercise specialists using the American College of Sports Medicine guidelines. The sport administration program prepares students to work in the sport business industry.
