The Department of History and Political Science studies is committed to enlivening our studies and wholly engaging our students in the learning process. Perimeter College history courses provide in-depth study of issues, as well as the background needed to help students make knowledgeable decisions and rational life choices. Our political science classes examine human behavior through data, political systems, institutions and behaviors. Perimeter’s African American Studies offers a systematic exploration of people of African descent in the United States, the Caribbean, Latin America, Europe and Africa through the lens of ethnicity, culture, gender, sexuality and social structure. Students who study here go on to pursue advanced degrees and careers in law, business, journalism and education-among other professions. Our department believes, as did Aristotle, that the study of politics (as well as history and related subjects) is essential to achieving a stable and orderly society-one that develops, advances and improves our lives.
Our award-winning faculty are noted experts on a variety of historical, political and African American topics-and they work diligently to bring the curriculum to life so the learning process is personal and real-world for students. Several of our department’s faculty are Georgia Governor’s Teaching Fellows, and the Georgia Political Science Association voted one of our faculty members Best Teacher of the Year. The Pre-Law Advisement program engages select Perimeter College faculty who serve as advisors and liaisons to the Georgia General Assembly.
Our department offers courses and pathways that provide solid preparation for a number of career fields, and we engage students through multiple community outreach programs.
