Students who wish to minor in applied linguistics (AL) must take at least 3 credit hours of world language at the 1002 level (or evidence of the equivalent proficiency in a second language) and at least 15 credit hours in applied linguistics, of which 12 credit hours must be at the 3000 level or higher. Two of the AL classes must be at the 4000 level. A grade of C- or higher is required in all courses counting toward the minor. World language 1002 is waived if it is a requirement in the student’s declared major. AL 3021 is a prerequisite to many AL courses; refer to the course catalog for prerequisites. AL 3021 has a prerequisite of AL 2021 with a C or higher or a suitable score on the department exemption exam. For information about the exemption exam, contact the AL undergraduate director. Students who wish to complete both an AL minor and the TEFL certificate may count some of the same courses toward requirements for both programs. See the AL undergraduate director for information on this combined program of study.
