Biology, Dual Degrees

The Department of Biology offers three Dual Degree Programs: 

Dual degree opportunities enable qualified students to enroll in graduate courses late in their undergraduate program and apply the coursework toward both the bachelor’s and master’s programs. 

Students must be formally accepted into the dual degree program by the department and College of Arts and Sciences to be able to take graduate courses as an undergraduate. Additionally, acceptance into the dual program does not constitute admission to the master’s program. Students must fulfill regular graduate admissions requirements and apply for the master’s program following college processes.

B.S. in Biology /M.S. in Medical Sciences Dual Degree Application Requirements


Applicants must be a Biology major and have a 3.3 overall GPA, after having successfully completed BIOL 3240, BIOL 3250, and BIOL 3800. 

B.S. in Biology /M.S. in Medical Sciences Dual Degree Course Requirements


B.S. in Biology/M.S. in Medical Science Dual Degree Students can fulfill up to 12 credit hours of “Additional BIOL Electives to Reach Credits” in Area G and fulfill up to 12 credit hours of graduate credit by choosing from and successfully completing only the three following courses with a grade of B or better: 

  • BIOL 6685 - Functional Histology (4 credit hours) 
  • BIOL 6686 - Pathophysiology (4 credit hours) 
  • BIOL 6687 - Surgical Anatomy (4 credit hours) 
  • BIOL 6997 - Non-Thesis Capstone Internship or Study Abroad Clinical Capstone (4 credit hours) 

No more than 12 graduate course credits taken as an undergraduate student will be used at the undergraduate or graduate level, depending on the program’s requirements.
