The department offers the following dual degree program:  

These dual degree opportunities enable qualified students to enroll in graduate courses late in their undergraduate program and apply the coursework toward both the bachelor’s and master’s programs. 

Students must be formally accepted into the dual degree program by the department and College of Arts and Sciences to be able to take graduate courses as an undergraduate. Additionally, acceptance into the dual program does not constitute admission to the master’s program. Students must fulfill regular graduate admissions requirements and apply for the master’s program following college processes.

B.A./M.A. in History Dual Degree Application Requirements


Applicants must be History majors who have at least a 3.5 overall GPA.

B.A./M.A. in History Dual Degree Course Requirements


B.A./M.A. in History Dual Degree Students can fulfill up to 12 credit hours of undergraduate Area G requirements with matching course titles and fulfill up to 12 credit hours of graduate credit by choosing from and successfully completing the following courses with a grade of B or better: 

1 course in Issues & Interp. in European History

  • HIST 7020 - Issues & Interp. in European History (4 credit hours) or

  • HIST 7040 - Issues & Interp. in Public History (4 credit hours)

1 course in Issues & Interp. in World History

  • HIST 7010 - Issues & Interp. in American History (4 credit hours) or

  • HIST 7030 - Issues & Interp. in World History (4 credit hours)

1 elective course 

  • HIST 6000:8000 - courses vary (varied credit hours) 

No more than 12 graduate course credits or four graduate courses taken as an undergraduate student will be used at the undergraduate or graduate level, depending on the program’s requirements.
