Technical and Professional Communication, Undergraduate Certificate

Certificate Advisory Group: Elizabeth Lopez, Baotong Gu, and Mark Noble, English

Information: cascertificates@gsu.edu

People who know how to craft a message for specific results rise faster in corporate settings than people who possess technical skills alone. The Technical and Professional Communication Certificate gives students knowledge, experiences, and abilities that will distinguish them from their peers. The so-called soft skills, of which writing is perhaps the most important, regularly top the list of job requirements regardless of field. The certificate may be of particular interest to students preparing for careers in technical communication, content development, scientific writing, and professional writing in fields such as public policy, advertising and journalism, public relations, educational administration, governmental, and non-profit work. Students can tailor their program to their specific interests in technical or professional writing.

Certificate Course Credit

Courses taken as part of a Georgia State University certificate program count toward the requirements of the certificate and may also count toward core curriculum, major, and minor requirements. However, students are advised to limit themselves no more than two certificates during their undergraduate studies. Please consult with an academic advisor if considering pursuing an undergraduate certificate.
