Information Technology, B.I.T.

The Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT) focuses on the study and application of technology and computer systems to solve real-world problems. The BIT program will prepare Georgia State University students for technology services careers in a wide variety of settings, including technology industries, data industries, government, universities and public schools, health care providers, and transportation/logistics sectors, among many others.

The BIT will begin admitting students in fall 2025.

University Grade-Point Average and Grade Requirements


Georgia State University undergraduate students must achieve an overall institutional grade-point average of 2.0 and a major GPA of 2.0 in the Major Area and the Minor and Additional Courses Area to receive a bachelor’s degree from the university. Grades of C- can be used to satisfy graduation requirements. However, some courses have prerequisites that require a grade of C or higher. (See section 1460 for additional information.)

Students may select any of the course options listed in each Core IMPACTS area. However, specific recommendations for certain areas are listed below. These recommended courses are not required in the Core IMPACTS areas but are required for the major. If not taken in the core, then they must be taken in the Field of Study or Additional Courses area.

  • ITEC 4370 - Web Programming (4 Credit Hours) OR ITEC 4360 - Mobile App Development (4 Credit Hours)
  • ITEC 4235 - Computer Security for IT (3 Credit Hours)

Capstone / Critical Thinking Through Writing (CTW) Requirement (4 Hours)


  • ITEC 4351 - IT Capstone Senior Design I-CTW (2)
  • ITEC 4352 - IT Capstone Senior Design II-CTW (2)

Major Electives (12 Hours)


Select additional computer science, data science, or information technology courses at the 3000- or 4000-level to reach a minimum of 44 hours in the Major Area. Related courses in other units may be counted in this area with approval from the college-level academic advisor (in consultation with the department). Up to 4 credit hours from CSC 4870 Honors Thesis I, CSC 4880 Honors Thesis II, CSC 4980 Topic in Computer Science, CSC 4982 Undergraduate Research in Computer Science, and CSC 4900 Technical Interview Prep II may count in this area.

Additional Courses Area


Select additional courses as electives to complete a minimum of 120 hours in the degree program. Required and prerequisite courses not taken in other areas must be taken in the Additional Courses area.

Graduation with Distinction in the Major


This unit offers undergraduate students with the opportunity to earn the designation of graduation with distinction in the major. Please contact the undergraduate director for the specific criteria for this honor.
