Admissions Criteria
- Acceptance into Georgia State University
Minimum grades
- A grade of B or better must be earned in each course for it to count towards the certificate.
The Undergraduate Certificate in Health and Wellness Coaching integrates nutrition and health knowledge with counseling skills. This certificate program will provide a strong nutrition and health coaching background for students and professionals interested in pursuing coaching positions (nutrition and wellness promotion in government agencies and private industries). Students will be taught the different behavior change theories, including motivational interviewing, transtheoretical model, social cognitive theory, and appreciative inquiry in order to support clients and patients in the process of change for improved health and well-being. Students will train and practice using the client-centered approach to help clients engage in self-discovery, goal setting, active learning, and self-monitoring behaviors while maintaining their appropriate scope of practice. This online certificate program will prepare students for careers in nutrition and health and wellness fields. After completing this program, students will be eligible to sit for the National Board for Health & Wellness Coaching exam (NBHWC). The NBHWC Board Exam is not required to obtain the Health & Wellness Coaching certificate from Georgia State.
