1542.10 Parent & Family Programs and the Panther Family Association
In order to provide families of Georgia State University students with an opportunity to remain actively involved with their student through the college experience, Parent & Family Programs provides programs and services such as Family Weekend. All family members and supporters of our students are automatically members of the Panther Family Association and have access to the Panther Family Portal. The Panther Family Portal (pantherfamily.gsu.edu) gives you access to newsletters, programming opportunities and critical information to support your student, including requesting a connection to your student to approve FERPA access.

New Student Orientation is responsible for welcoming students to the Panther Family. Your student type will determine what your requirements for Orientation. All new students to the University are required to complete Start @ State as part of their onboarding. For all first-time first-year students at the Atlanta & Perimeter College Campuses, New Student Orientation is the official Georgia State University welcome and is required for new freshmen, which you will register for after completing Start @ State. Transfer, transition, transient, post-bac, and Dual Enrollment students are only required to complete Start @ State. One-day orientation programs are offered for new freshman students at Atlanta, half-day programs at Perimeter College, and half-day orientation programs for new transfer students. There is also a family and guest orientation program, which runs concurrently with all student programs.

1542.30 Off-Campus Housing
Along with the 5,000+ students in University Housing on the Atlanta campus, many more live in nearby privatized student housing. While the university doesn’t oversee these private complexes, we work with their management to enhance safety and security for the entire community. The goal is to ensure all students, regardless of where they live, feel safe and supported.
For students seeking housing options outside of University Housing, visit the Georgia State University Off-Campus Housing website. This free resource assists GSU students in finding nearby housing, searching for roommates, and accessing information about their rights and responsibilities. It’s important for all students-whether on-campus, off-campus or living at home-to make sure to have insurance coverage for your personal belongings.
