PT 7025 - PT Management: Acute Medical, Surgical Pathology


3 Credit Hours
Prerequisites: Entry into the PT Program and successful completion of all prior DPT courses.
Description
This course exposes the student to a variety of medical and surgical conditions commonly encountered by the physical therapist. Basic principles of pharmacology including pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and pharmacotherapeutics will be addressed. Key concepts of drug administration, dose-response relationships, drug interactions, and factors influencing the effectiveness of medications are discussed. Students will answer clinical questions to distinguish the diverse classes of drugs as well as understand both practical and theoretical implications of drug use for selected populations. Specific medical and surgical conditions will be discussed, as well as related laboratory values, diagnostics and medical management will be discussed in the context of physical therapy management.
