PHYS 8510 - Solid State Physics

Prerequisites: PHYS 6910 with grade of C or higher, or consent of instructor.
Description
Thermal, electrical, magnetic, and mechanical properties of solids; crystal structure; reciprocal lattice; X-ray diffraction; nearly free electrons; band structure and modifications; homogeneous and inhomogeneous semiconductors; defects and dislocations; dielectric properties of insulators; and superconductors. Three lecture hours a week.
