EPY 8240 - Development of Racial, Ethnic, and Cultural Identity

Students study and explore the myths and realities of racial, ethnic, and cultural identity in the United States. This class focuses on the components of ethnicity and analyzes how cultural identification influences behavior. Students gain knowledge of the major theories related to racial, ethnic, and cultural identity and apply their knowledge of these theoretical constructs to specific domains of interest. This course is grounded in a developmental perspective with an emphasis on educational, personal, and professional contexts. In addition, this class utilizes a constructivist approach in that students utilize their personal experiences as a basis for developing knowledge.
