ANTH 6340 - Applied Anthropology 3 Hours This course examines historical, contemporary, and interdisciplinary perspectives of applied anthropology: a way of life and work informed by scientific and scholarly knowledge, expressed as socially responsible conduct, and defined by ethical principles and strategies of social reform. We will explore, evaluate, and critique (1) anthropologists’ claims of a “new anthropology” concerned with the study of humanity at the service of humanity; (2) epistemological, theoretical, and methodological frameworks of applied anthropology across the sub-disciplines of archaeology, biological anthropology, sociocultural anthropology, and linguistics; and (3) empirical case studies of policy and practice.
Prerequisite(s): Limited to graduate students. Corequisite(s): None. Pre/Corequisite(s): None. Requirements: None.
