SW 4810 - Reenvisioning Justice

Description
CRJU 4810 - Reenvisioning Justice   This course examines the history and theory of policing, sentencing, and punishment and their role in the creation of the Prison Industrial Complex (IPC). Also, examined will be efforts designed to reform and transform these institutions, and the impact of these efforts. The theories and policies associated with systematic racism/white supremacy/ and anti-blackness; Broken Windows Policing, the 1994 Crime Bill and Privatization will orient all aspects of the course. The course will end by showing the importance of prevention and potential of transformative and restorative justice in supporting change.
