SLIP 4070 - Practicum I

Pre/Corequisites: Prerequisite: SLIP 3050 and SLIP 3060 with a minimum grade of B.
Description
Corequisite: SLIP 4050 and SLIP 4060.This course provides students with observation opportunities in a variety of interpreting situations (e.g., K-12 educational, post-secondary, community, religious, Video Relay Service). Students utilize observation and reflection to identify how interpreters must adjust and apply linguistic skills, cultural mediation strategies, and professional knowledge in different contexts. The course emphasizes professionalism, adherence to the RID Code of Professional Conduct, and promoting domain-specific knowledge. The course is a precursor to the Practicum II class, where students will interpret under the guidance of a supervising interpreter.
