higher GPA, and recommendation of Nursing Faculty.This course fosters development of essential competenciesfor successful socialization into the profession of nursing.The competencies that the students acquire include but arenot limited to application of critical thinking for problemsolving; cooperation and professional communication withpeers, faculty, and the community; facilitation of groupprocess; and acceptance of responsibility for decisions.By attaining these competencies, students enhance their ownpersonal development as well as their socialization into theprofession of nursing. Only members of the National StudentNurses’ Association (NSNA) and therefore, Georgia PerimeterCollege Association of Nursing Students (GaPCANS), areeligible to take this elective service-learning course. 201608
