Additional School of Music Artist Certificate in Music Application Requirements:
- Applicants must have either a master’s degree in music, or the equivalent professional experience.
- Applicants are required to submit a School of Music application at https://app.getacceptd.com/gsu.
- Applicants must submit a resume/curriculum vitae within the online Acceptd application, plus any other materials required by the concentration (see below).
Artist Certificate in Music: Concentrations in Performance
(Jazz Studies, Orchestral Instrument, Organ, Piano, Voice)
Additional Admissions Requirements
Applicants must demonstrate outstanding performance ability in an audition before a faculty committee. Auditions should be arranged through the School of Music application platform, Acceptd, in accordance with the schedule available from the School of Music. To view specific application and audition requirements, navigate to https://app.getacceptd.com/gsu, select “Start an Application,” and complete the fields for the performance concentration of choice.
Artist Certificate in Music: Concentrations in Conducting
(Choral Conducting, Orchestral Conducting, Wind Band Conducting)
Additional Admissions Requirements
AC in Choral Conducting
Applicants must submit the following: (1) a prescreening video audition containing at least 20 minutes of rehearsal and/or performance footage, uploaded within the Acceptd application; (2) a personal statement (can be up to 500 words in length, approximately 2-pages, double spaced, using 12-point font) responding to the following prompt: Please discuss your academic and musical goals and your reasons for applying to GSU’s graduate music program.
AC in Orchestral Conducting
Applicants must submit the following: (1) a face-to-the-camera conducting video of 10 to 30 minutes in length of one or more recent performances by an ensemble that they have conducted, uploaded within the Acceptd application; (2) a list of works rehearsed or conducted, indicating (R) for rehearsed and (C) conducted, in the last 3 years; (3) a list of works performed on their major instrument at the undergraduate level; (4) evidence of current employment as an instrumental conductor or access to an appropriate instrument ensemble.
AC in Wind Band Conducting
Applicants must submit the following: (1) a video of selections from a recent rehearsal(s) and/or performances, not to exceed 20 minutes in length. Ideally the candidate will submit both a rehearsal and a performance of the same piece with the same ensemble, though this is not a requirement; (2) a list of works rehearsed or conducted, indicating (R) for rehearsed and (C) for conducted; (3) a one- or two-page essay explaining why they wish to pursue graduate study in wind band conducting and their career goals.
