Gerontology, M.A.

Students pursuing the M.A. degree may choose either the program administration concentration or the research concentration. The program administration concentration prepares students to work in aging services and administration and emphasizes program design and management. The research concentration prepares students to enter doctoral programs in gerontology, sociology, psychology, policy studies, family studies, or related fields and for beginning careers with organizations engaged in aging research.

Master of Arts-Requirements for Admission

  1. The general requirements of the College of Arts and Sciences.
  2. Three letters of recommendation.
  3. A statement of educational and career goals.
  4. A current resume. 

Degree Requirements


(Minimum of 36 credit hours)

Prerequisite


Prerequisite required of students without previous coursework in statistics.

  • SOCI 3010 - Social Statistics 3 Hours or another approved statistics course

Graduate Assistants


Graduate assistants are required to enroll for a minimum of 12 credit hours each for the fall/spring semesters and 9 credit hours for the summer semester. These credit hours will consist of courses required for the prescribed program of study, as well as additional hours of GERO 8990 and/or 8999.
