Degree Requirements

The thesis in art education may concentrate solely on an art education issue, or explore a studio or art history oriented problem that is tied to an art education issue.

Research in art education may focus on action research in the candidate’s own classroom as well as other research methodologies. Thesis research that includes a thesis exhibition is also acceptable.

Three Hours of Coursework in Non-Western

AE 8980 - Special Problems 3 Hours

Studio Art Requirement

Nine hours of coursework in a studio concentration:

ART 6980 - Directed Study 1 to 6 Hours (may be taken more than once)
DP 6980 - Directed Study 3 to 6 Hours

Required Art Education Coursework

Nine hours of AE 8000-level coursework

Psychology of Learning Requirement

Select one:

EPY 7080 - The Psychology of Learning and Learners 3 Hours (These specific education courses are offered on-line and are aligned with the low-residency M.A.Ed. cohort program structure. M.A.Ed. students should earn at least a B in all coursework in order to graduate with a M.A.Ed. degree.)
EPY 7090 - The Psychology of Learning and Learners: The Young Child 3 Hours

Philosophical and Social Foundations of Education Requirement

Select one:

EPSF 7100 - Critical Pedagogy 3 Hours
EPSF 7110 - Multicultural Education 3 Hours
EPSF 7120 - Social and Cultural Foundations of Education 3 Hours (These specific education courses are offered on-line and are aligned with the low-residency M.A.Ed. cohort program structure. M.A.Ed. students should earn at least a B in all coursework in order to graduate with a M.A.Ed. degree.)

Research Methodology Requirement

Select one:

EPRS 7900 - Methods of Research in Education 3 Hours (These specific education courses are offered on-line and are aligned with the low-residency M.A.Ed. cohort program structure. M.A.Ed. students should earn at least a B in all coursework in order to graduate with a M.A.Ed. degree.)
EPRS 7910 - Action Research 3 Hours (preferred)
EPRS 7920 - Classroom Testing, Grading, and Assessment 3 Hours
