Art Pathway, A.S.

Return to: Fine Arts

The Art guided pathways at Perimeter College offers courses in art history, drawing, two-dimensional and three dimensional design, photography, computer design, painting, ceramics, sculpture and portfolio that enable students to explore their career interests. Creative visual thinking is brought to life by a faculty of professional artists who expand skills and prepare students for transfer to four-year programs or for careers as professional artists.

The Art Pathways are accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design.

Studio Art Attendance Policy
Class attendance is required. Absences amounting to no more than 15% of the course meeting days are allowed.  The instructor reserves the right to lower a students final grade due to lack of attendance.

It is possible for a student to pass all projects, tests, and assignments and still fail the class due to excessive absences. It is the student’s responsibility to understand the full Art attendance policy for every course they take. Refer to the Undergraduate Handbook for other relevant information regarding absences: Student Code of Conduct.

Recommendations

The A.S. in Art pathway is intended as a studio foundations preparation with required coursework in four studio foundation courses and three survey-level art history courses. The AS in Art Pathway is identical to the coursework offered at the GSU Welch School of Art and Design in the Studio Foundation Program and is designed with the intent that students will transition to the Atlanta Campus to major in Studio Art. This may also lead to a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio with a concentration in one of the following areas: Drawing and Painting or Printmaking, Graphic Design, Interior Design, Photography, Textiles, or Three-Dimensional Studies-Ceramics or Sculpture. It may also lead to the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art Education. Photography, Graphic Design, and Interior Design require transition to the main campus after 30 credits to achieve the Bachelor’s degree in 4 years. Students should begin to take classes in their Field of Study as soon as possible as those who begin their studies on the Atlanta campus schedule art foundation classes during their first year.

Arts, Humanities and Ethics
