Degree Requirements (120 Hours)
The Pre-Medical/Pre-Health Concentration (PMPHC) is designed to prepare students for a career in the medical field. In addition to meeting the basic medical school application course requirements, upper-level courses are available to prepare students for their first year of medical school. Students who desire a Special Master’s Degree Program can take specific courses* in the PMPHC which will count toward both B.S. and M.S. Degrees in Biology, Medical Science. Upon attaining a grade of B or better in Biol 3240 and 3250 and a minimum 3.3 GPA, students can apply for Dual Degree in Biology-Medical Science. Students in the PMPHC are also encouraged to view the Premedical Concentration coursepage for announcements. *Dual Degree courses are Biol 6686 Pathophysiology, Biol 6687 Surgical Anatomy, Biol 6997 Clinical Internship, Biol 6685 Functional Histology.
Core IMPACTS Areas
Students may select any of the course options listed in each Core IMPACTS area. However, specific recommendations for certain areas are listed below. These recommended courses are not required in the core, but some are required for the major. If not taken in the core, those indicated must be taken in the Field of Study or Additional Courses area. Field of Study Area (18 Hours)
- All courses above ending in K may also be offered as separate lecture and lab (L) courses. The combined (K) courses and separate lecture and lab (L) courses cover the same subject matter and are equivalent courses.
- Any credit hours exceeding 18 earned to complete the Field of Study Area will count toward elective hours.
Professional Development Requirement (1-2 Hours)
It is recommended that students take their professional development course early in their courses of study for career preparation. Select at least one of the following professional development courses. Note: Each of these courses may only be taken once for credit toward the major. CTW Requirement (2-4 Hours)
