DSCI 8390 - MS Project


1-4 Credit Hours
Prerequisites: (1) Completion of at least two-thirds (18 hours) of the required courses in the Big Data and Machine Learning Concentration, and (2) Obtain consent from their M.S. project advisor.
Description
This course serves as the capstone project for students who are pursuing the Big Data & Machine Learning concentration of M.S. degree in Data Science and Analytics (DSA). The students complete the course by implementing a data science project following one of industry standards (e.g., CRISP-DM, SEMMA). Throughout the duration of the course, students will be expected to showcase their technical proficiency and problem-solving abilities. Specifically: (1) Understanding the Principles of DSA, (2) Data Collection and Visualization, (3) Identification of DSA Tasks, (4) Solution Design and Implementation, (5) Analysis and Evaluation of DSA Approaches, and (6) Interpretation of Outcomes from Deployed DSA Models. Students will be expected to pass an oral final examination conducted by the BDML M.S. project advisor and another BDML faculty member to satisfy the project option requirement within their M.S. program. 1
