PHPH 7365 - Epidemiology of Adolescent and Young Adult Health Risk Behaviors

Description
This course will provide an introduction to adolescent and young adult health risk behaviors and their joint occurrences from a population perspective. Topics covered will focus on individual and social behaviors that include and contribute to unintentional injuries and violence, alcohol and drug abuse, sexual risk taking behaviors that contribute to unintended pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases, unhealthy dietary behaviors, and physical inactivity. However, international perspectives will also be provided for comparisons and context. By the end of the course, students will gain a comprehensive overview and understanding of the scope and costs of health risk behaviors, current research findings and implications for prevention and intervention strategies including policies. Emphasis will be placed on presentations and discussions of the prevalence, trends, and risk and protective factors across health risk behaviors among adolescents and young adults in the U.S.
