The Graduate Certificate program in Nonprofit Management and Social Enterprise covers skills in management, economic decision making, marketing, fundraising, and financial management that graduates can use in any part of the nonprofit sector: social service provision, education, health, the arts, the environment, international relief, or religion.

This certificate is designed to serve the needs of several different groups of professionals:

  • Those already in the nonprofit sector who seek to improve skills in areas not addressed in on-the-job training, such as strategic management, leadership, and managerial economics.
  • Those who are moving from government or the private sector into the nonprofit organizations who need the skills and credentials appropriate for such a switch.
  • Those who are pursuing non-AYSPS graduate degrees, but who desire training in nonprofit management skills.

Regulations for the Certificate in Nonprofit Management and Social Enterprise Program

Applicants to the certificate program will be subject to the same admissions requirements (with the exception of the submission of letters of references) that exists for the Master of Public Administration (M.P.A) and Master of Public Policy (M.P.P) degrees. However, letters of recommendation are not required, and experienced practitioners may apply for a waiver of the Graduate Record Examination requirement. Obtaining the certificate will be based on the completion of the four stipulated courses with a minimum GPA in these courses of 3.0. No grade of a C- or lower will count for credit towards the certificate, nor will more than one grade of C+ or C be allowed for credit towards the certificate. The time limit for completing the certificate program is three years from the term of entry.
