CHEM 1211K - Principles of Chemistry I


4 Credit Hours
Prerequisites: MATH 1111 or higher with a C or higher.
Corequisites: Alternatively, students may take MATH 1111  concurrently if they have met one of the following pre-conditions: 1) Score of 1 or higher on either the Chemistry, Calculus, or Physics AP exam; or 2) completed CHEM 1050  or CHEM 1151K  (or CHEM 1151/CHEM 1151L) or equivalent with a C or higher; or 3) placement into MATH 1111  or higher based on math placement test; or 4) IB Chemistry with department approval.
Includes a lab fee.

Description
This is the first course in a two-semester sequence covering the fundamental principles and applications of chemistry for science majors. Topics include composition of matter, chemical reactions, stoichiometry, periodic relations, nomenclature, thermochemistry, electronic structure, chemical bonding, molecular geometry, and properties of gases. Three lecture hours and one laboratory session a week.
