Requirement: A minimum grade of “C” is required for this course.This field-based course is the first of three courses that prepare teacher candidates to develop the literacy of students in diverse urban classrooms. This course addresses major theoretical, conceptual, and evidence-based foundations of literacy and language development during the early and elementary years. Candidates apply a variety of assessments to gather information about students’ literacy, language, and orthographic knowledge, strengths, and needs. Additionally, candidates design, teach, and reflect on a variety of evidence-based and developmentally appropriate tutoring mini lessons to develop reading and writing processes for all learners. L
