ECE 6390 - Foundations for Teaching Mathematics Developmentally 2 Credit Hours Requirements: A minimum grade of “C” is required for this course.
Description Requirement: A minimum grade of “C” is required for this course.This course is designed to model an engaging, student-centered approach to instruction that emphasizes making sense of mathematics. Candidates will examine philosophies behind elementary mathematics programs and reflect on the practices that grow these viewpoints. The course is centered on researched-based methods, namely, teaching through problem-solving. Candidates who complete this course successfully will deepen their understanding of the elementary mathematics, including place value, operations, and fractions; how children’s mathematical thinking develops; and methods for teaching mathematics while cultivating a positive disposition toward teaching mathematics.
