SW 8340 - Restorative and Transformative Justice 3 Credit Hours Description This course explores restorative justice as strategy for dialogue, peacemaking, and transformation. The course will include content about restorative practices and restorative and transformative justice. The content on restorative practices will include information on the places and ways in which they are used to do things such as transform schools/child welfare agencies/neighborhoods and the individuals within them, as well as disrupt the school-to- prison-pipeline. Restorative and transformative justice will be presented as an alternative to incarceration, and a strategy to support victims, offenders, and communities following crime including state violence. The course will include theory on trauma, conflict transformation, and disparities within the present criminal justice system. The course will also include practice skills in peacemaking circles, and restorative conferencing. Critiques of restorative justice will also be included.
