3 Credit Hours
Prerequisites: Prerequisite: CPS 6040 with a minimum grade of “B”.
Requirements: A minimum grade of “B” is required for this course.

Description
Requirement: A minimum grade of “B” is required for this course. This course provides an introduction to functional behavioral assessment (FBA) and function-based behavioral interventions for school psychologists and other educators. It considers both the theory and practice of behavioral assessment and interventions, behavioral consultation, and positive behavioral supports in schools and community contexts. There is an emphasis on methods to define target behaviors, determine the function of challenging behavior, identify appropriate replacement behaviors, and deliver and monitor intensive behavioral interventions. Strategies for collaboration and consultation with teachers and families to address students’ challenging behaviors are introduced. This course seeks to bridge theory and practice and to maintain the active participation of students.
