Geographic Information System (GIS) technology is an increasingly important tool in spatial data management, visualization and analysis. In urban studies and related professions, GIS literacy and skills are often essential to comprehend the spatial nature of problems and solutions in urban settings. This hands-on course introduces students to the basic concepts and skills of GIS, including data types, spatial reference or coordinate systems, geoprocessing and map design.
