Audiology Specialty Certificate


The Audiology Specialty Certificate Program will provide professionals in other disciplines an in-depth knowledge about audiologic assessment procedures, as well as a robust understanding about audiologic and communication management resources for the hearing-impaired and deaf populations. Postbaccalaurerate/graduate students with a unique interest in the following areas and/or populations can greatly benefit from this certificate: pediatric and school-age hearing impaired and deaf populations, adults and elderly populations with hearing loss and related communication problems, cochlear implants, auditory processing disorders (i.e. management and invervention techniques), auditory training, aural habilitation/rehabilitation, comprehensive assessment of communication needs, and hearing conservation, among others.

This certificate has the following objections:

1.) To create a workforce of professionals that practice interpersonal collaboration to better serve the needs of those patients and students under mutual care, following the main competencies for interprofessional practice:

(a) Maintaining a climate of mutual respect while working with individuals of other professions.

(b) Using knowledge of one’s own role and that of other professions to assess and address the needs of patients.

(c) Communicating in a responsive and responsible manner that supports a team approach.

(d) Applying relationship-building values and the principles of team dynamics to perform effectively in various team roles to plan, deliver, and evaluate the people they serve with policies that are safe, timely, efficient, effective, and equitable.

2.) To increase access to highly competent and specialized providers for people with hearing loss who come from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds and ensure that the provided care is patient centered.

 

The Georgia State University Communication Sciences & Disorders Audiology Specialty Certificate Program is designed for postbaccalaureate and/or graduate students from other related disciplines that hav a professional interest in acquiring more specialized knowledge and competencies in the field of audiology with an emphasis on interprofessional education and collaborative practice.
