Biological Sciences, M.S., Research Concentration

To participate in the Research concentration, a student must find a research advisor who is a Biology research faculty or research associate faculty within their first two semesters in the program.
The Research concentration offers both thesis and non-thesis options. Students enrolled in the Research concentration must complete the M.S. Biology core courses.

Biology Core Courses (13 Credit Hours)
Students enrolled in the Research concentration must complete the M.S. Biology core courses. Research Concentration Core Courses (9 Credit Hours)
Biology Elective Courses (7-8 Credit Hours)
Students will select one course from the following list of 4 credit hour courses and take 3-4 credit hours of additional BIOL 6000- or 8000-level courses from the Biology catalog. Non-Thesis Capstone Course (4 Credit Hours)
Thesis Option
Students participating in the thesis option complete the same coursework as described for the non-thesis option except for their capstone course. For the thesis option, students will enroll in BIOL 8999 (Thesis Research) in their final semester. Participation in the thesis option requires approval of the student’s research advisor and must begin in their first semester in the MS program. Students must write a thesis proposal for approval by their thesis committee and must defend their thesis to their committee prior to graduation.
