Additional Admissions Requirements
In addition to the general requirements of the College of the Arts, the School of Film, Media & Theatre has the following requirements:
- All applicants to the M.F.A. program must submit:
- A portfolio of creative work (maximum 5 examples of work)
- A personal statement that contextualizes the portfolio and describes the applicant’s filmmaking goals
- An example of academic writing (maximum 20 pages)
- Two letters of recommendation
- Applicants for the Filmmaking concentration of the M.F.A. program will be admitted in the fall only. The priority deadline for the Filmmaking concentration is December 1, and the final deadline is March 15. The school will not consider requests for Special Graduate Status admission.
- The M.F.A. is a cohort model program in which students are advised to take all courses on offer for each semester with their cohort. Not all courses listed below are available each semester, indeed with the cohort model a limited selection of 4 courses are available each semester. Course sequencing is strategized and approved by the graduate faculty to ensure students receive all necessary skills, pedagogy, and meet all degree requirements. Course rotations are planned 2 years in advance. To find out what courses are on rotation for your cohort, please reach out to the graduate director.

Degree Requirements
Students must earn a grade of “B” or better in all required coursework. Master of Fine Arts (minimum 72 Credit Hours)

27 Hours Pedagogy:
3 Hours - FLME 7110 MFA Pedagogy 3 Credit Hours
Film/Media Theory/History:
3 Hours Select one course from the following: Thesis Production
12 Hours Graduate Digital Filmmaking Electives
