Master of Interdisciplinary Studies: Accounting and Data Science Concentration

To be successful in professional accounting and related career fields, graduates are increasingly expected to bring multiple skills to the workplace; these include solid technical accounting knowledge, such as audit, taxation, and financial accounting, along with advanced capabilities in data and analysis. Current degree offerings provide a portion but not the full suite of required skills. Traditionally-trained accountants have the accounting knowledge but lack data analysis skills, while computer engineers and data scientists have the requisite analytics ability but lack sufficient accounting background.

The Master of Interdisciplinary Studies: Accounting and Data Science Concentration is designed to bridge this gap and help educate graduates with the skills the market demands. The program combines a strong foundation in technical accounting with cutting edge data science skills. These combined skillsets will prepare graduates for careers in the increasingly data-focused field of professional accounting, as well as related fields. The program has four learning objectives:

  • Provide a solid foundation of technical accounting skills
  • Build essential skills in data science
  • Introduce cutting-edge technology skills
  • Synthesize accounting and data science for career readiness
